The CCC Pavilion at South Kawishiwi Campground

"Those were the most exciting years of my youthful life! Looking back it seems like a dream...guess that's what memories are made of. Meeting people, crossing bridges, a whole new way of life."

Edward Benysek was one of 3.5 million young people employed by the Civilian Conservation Corps(CCC), a New Deal work initiative championed by Franklin Delano Roosevelt during the Depression of 1933. Ed joined Ely Camp #704 for many projects, including the pictured pavilion building at South Kawishiwi Campground, one of thousands of conservation projects of the era across the country.

You can rent the pavilion space for events

You can stay at the USFS campground in the summer season and enjoy camping and paddling on the Kawishiwi River, or as access to many great gravel roads and trails in the area.
